The Heartfelt Beginning of Wish Wear Accessories
It All Started with a Blanket
Wish Wear Accessories didn’t begin in a boardroom or with a fancy business plan, It started at my kitchen table with a sewing machine and an innovation mission rooted in the heartbeat of my rare community, the children diagnosed with CTNNB1 Syndrome.
Back in 2015, my son, Maddox, was born and at 8 months old was diagnosed with CTNNB1 Syndrome.. CTNNB1 Syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental condition affecting fewer than 500 children globally. Maddox’s arrival planted the seed of empathy, purpose, and innovation in my heart.
A Friend’s Request That Changed Everything
The spark came in 2021 when my friend and fellow rare disease mom, Effie Parks, asked me to help. She needed something simple but important: a waterproof blanket to keep him warm and dry on their rainy Washington walks.
Ford moves a lot in his chair, so this wasn’t just a matter of throwing a blanket over his lap, it had to stay put, feel comfortable, and keep him cozy. I got to work and stitched together a custom blanket with a snap-on hood, handlebar straps to hold the blanket up, straps that would secure around his torso and calves to keep it in place, and hand pocket to keep his hands toasty. It has a water resistant exterior and a flannel lining. I didn’t just want to make an amazing blanket, I wanted to make an amazing blanket FOR Ford. So I found out all his favorite things and colors and picked the perfect planet printed fabric so it was personalized to his vibe and style.
It was functional, but it was also full of heart. This was the start of Wish Wear Accessories and our flagship product the Buggy Blanket.
